  • How to Set Up a Ring Binder Planner (Even If You Have Never Planned Before)

    Nadège

If you just got your first ring binder planner, I know it can feel a little intimidating.

All those empty pages. All those possibilities. And that little voice asking where you are even supposed to start.

So I want to make this really simple for you.

Step 1: Decide what your planner is for

Before you add a single page, ask yourself one question. What do I want this planner to help me with?

Maybe it is your appointments. Maybe it is your money. Maybe it is your goals, your kids' schedule, or just a place to put everything that is spinning in your head at night.

You don't have to pick only one. But knowing your main reason will make every other step easier.

Step 2: Create 3 or 4 simple sections

This is where a ring binder planner really shines. You can move pages around whenever your life changes.

Here is a setup I love for beginners:

Monthly: one page per month to see the big picture.
Weekly: your week at a glance, appointments and to do's.
    Notes: ideas, lists, random thoughts.
Goals: one page for what you are working toward right now.

That's it. You can always add more later.

    Step 3: Use good paper

Thin paper is the fastest way to stop using a planner. The ink bleeds through, the pages tear at the rings, and it just doesn't feel good to write on.

Our Planner Inserts are 120 gsm, so they hold up to pen, pencil and highlighter. They come pre punched, so you just open the rings and slide them in.

Step 4: Keep your cards and pen with it

A planner only works if it is with you. That's why I love a cover with card slots and a pen loop. Your planner becomes the one thing you grab before you leave the house.

Step 5: Give yourself 5 minutes a day

You don't need an hour. Just 5 minutes in the morning with your coffee, or 5 minutes before bed.

Look at your day. Write down what matters. Let go of the rest.

And if you miss a few days, that's okay. Just open it again. You can start again as many times as you need.
